Novak Djokovic was unable to add to his impressive list of Grand Slam titles after a thrilling five-set loss to Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final. Djokovic, who had won the last two Wimbledon titles, was looking to become the first man since Bjorn Borg in 1976 to win three consecutive titles at the All England Club.
The match was an epic battle between two of the greatest players of all time. Djokovic and Federer traded blows for almost five hours before Federer emerged victorious 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12. Djokovic had a chance to win the match in the fifth set, but he was unable to convert on two match points.
After the match, Djokovic was reflective about his missed opportunities. “I had my chances,” Djokovic said. “I was up in the fifth set and I had two match points. I didn’t take them and that’s why I lost.”
Despite the disappointment of the loss, Djokovic was quick to praise his opponent. “Roger is an incredible champion and he deserves this victory,” Djokovic said. “He played some great tennis and I congratulate him on his win.”
Djokovic will now turn his attention to the US Open, where he will be looking to add to his impressive list of Grand Slam titles. Despite the disappointment of the Wimbledon final, Djokovic remains one of the greatest players of all time and will be a threat to win any tournament he enters.
