Cougar Football, Cougars, Sports Seattle

Washington State University football has seen a lot of turnover in recent years, with many players transferring out of the program. The Cougars have had to look to the transfer portal to find new players to fill the gaps left by those departing. With the 2021 season quickly approaching, it’s time to take a look at who’s leaving and who the Cougars could target in the transfer portal.

The most notable departure from WSU is quarterback Anthony Gordon, who announced his intention to transfer in January. Gordon was a four-year starter for the Cougars and was one of the top quarterbacks in the Pac-12. His departure leaves a big hole in the WSU offense, and the Cougars will need to find a suitable replacement.

In addition to Gordon, the Cougars have also seen several other players transfer out of the program. Wide receiver Jamire Calvin, defensive back Sean Harper Jr., and defensive lineman Nnamdi Oguayo are all leaving WSU for other schools. The Cougars will need to find replacements for these players as well.

So who could the Cougars target in the transfer portal? One name that has been mentioned is former Oregon quarterback Tyler Shough. Shough started for the Ducks in 2020 and had a strong season, throwing for 2,500 yards and 17 touchdowns. He would be a great fit for the WSU offense and could help fill the void left by Gordon’s departure.

Another potential target is former USC quarterback JT Daniels. Daniels started for the Trojans in 2018 and 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury in 2020. He has a strong arm and could be a great fit for the Cougars’ offense.

Finally, the Cougars could also look to add some depth at wide receiver. Former Arizona State wideout Frank Darby is an intriguing option. Darby had a strong 2020 season, catching 43 passes for 689 yards and six touchdowns. He would be a great addition to the WSU receiving corps.
