The Washington softball team had a successful weekend, winning all three games against California. The Washington team was able to capitalize on their strong pitching and defense to come away with the sweep.
In the first game, Washington’s ace pitcher, Sarah Smith, threw a complete game shutout, allowing only two hits in seven innings. She was able to keep the California batters off balance with her mix of off-speed pitches and hard fastballs. The Washington offense was able to get timely hits, with shortstop Amanda Jones delivering a clutch two-run single in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference maker. The Washington defense also played well, making several key plays to keep California from taking the lead.
The third game was another close one, with Washington coming out on top 3-2. This time it was the Washington pitching that was the difference maker, as starter Rachel Johnson was able to keep the California batters off balance with her mix of pitches. Johnson was also able to get out of several jams, as she was able to strand seven runners on base throughout the game.
Overall, it was a great weekend for the Washington softball team. They were able to capitalize on their strong pitching and defense to come away with the sweep. With this performance, they have put themselves in a great position to make a run at the playoffs this season.
