The University of Washington women’s basketball team has advanced to the Super 16 of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) after a hard-fought victory over Kansas State. The Huskies, who are the No. 4 seed in the tournament, defeated the Wildcats in a thrilling game that went into overtime.

The Huskies were led by senior guard Amber Melgoza, who scored a career-high 33 points and had seven rebounds. She was joined by freshman forward Missy Peterson, who had 16 points and nine rebounds. The team was able to overcome a slow start and outscore Kansas State in the second half and overtime period to secure the victory.

The win marks the first time in program history that the Huskies have advanced to the Super 16 of the WNIT. It is also the first time since the 2010-11 season that the team has won a postseason game. The Huskies will now face No. 1 seed South Dakota State in the Super 16 round, with the winner advancing to the WNIT Final Four.

The Huskies have been on a roll lately, winning five of their last six games. They have been led by Melgoza, who has been a consistent force for the team all season long. She is averaging 19.2 points per game and is shooting an impressive 45.3 percent from three-point range.

The Huskies have also been getting great contributions from Peterson, who has been a key contributor off the bench. She is averaging 11.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.

The Huskies have been playing some of their best basketball of the season lately, and they will look to continue their success against South Dakota State. If they can pull off the upset and advance to the WNIT Final Four, it would be a huge accomplishment for the program and would be a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaches.
