The University of Washington Women’s Cross Country team had a successful showing at the Virginia Invitational this past weekend. The Huskies placed fourth in the meet, behind three nationally-ranked teams.
The team was led by senior All-American Amy-Eloise Neale, who finished in second place with a time of 16:54. Neale was followed by sophomore Katie Knight, who finished in ninth place with a time of 17:17. The rest of the team also performed well, with junior Maddie Meyers finishing in 16th place and freshman Katie Bianchini coming in 22nd.
The Huskies were up against some tough competition, as the meet featured three teams that are currently ranked in the top 25 nationally. Despite this, the team was able to hold its own and finish fourth overall.
The team’s performance was a great sign for the future of the program. With Neale graduating after this season, the Huskies will need to rely on their younger athletes to step up and fill the void. The showing at the Virginia Invitational was a good indication that the team is ready to do just that.
The University of Washington Women’s Cross Country team has had a successful season thus far, and the fourth-place finish at the Virginia Invitational is just another example of their hard work and dedication. With a strong core of young talent, the Huskies look poised to make a run at the NCAA Championships later this season.
