The Texas No. 7 football team is on a mission to capture its first Big 12 title since 2009 before its transition to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 2024. The Longhorns have been a powerhouse in the Big 12 for decades, but have yet to bring home a championship in the past 11 years.

Head coach Tom Herman has been at the helm of the program since 2016 and has been steadily building the program back to its former glory. He has led the Longhorns to three consecutive bowl game appearances, including a Sugar Bowl victory in 2019. This season, the Longhorns are off to a 4-1 start and are currently ranked No. 7 in the nation.

The Longhorns have a tough schedule ahead of them, with games against Oklahoma, Iowa State, TCU, and Kansas State still to come. If they can come out of those games with a win, they will be in prime position to make a run at the Big 12 title.

The Longhorns have been preparing for their transition to the SEC for some time now. They have been recruiting top talent from across the country and have been building their roster with an eye towards competing in the SEC. The transition will be a big step up for the program, as the SEC is widely considered to be one of the toughest conferences in college football.

The Longhorns are determined to make the most of their remaining time in the Big 12 and are hoping to bring home a championship before they move on. It won’t be easy, but if they can pull it off, it would be a fitting end to their time in the conference and would give them some much needed momentum heading into their new conference.

Only time will tell if the Longhorns can make their dream of a Big 12 title a reality before they transition to the SEC in 2024. But one thing is for sure: they won’t go down without a fight.
