On April 9th, 2021, the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) announced that it had submitted a preliminary proposal to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2030 Winter Olympics. This would be the first time that Sweden has hosted the Winter Olympics since 1952, when the games were held in Oslo, Norway.

The proposal was submitted in conjunction with the Swedish government, which has expressed its support for the bid. The government has committed to providing financial support for the games, as well as infrastructure and security. The proposal also includes plans for venues, transportation, and accommodation for athletes and spectators.

The Swedish Olympic Committee is confident that their proposal will be successful, citing the country’s strong sporting culture and its commitment to sustainability. Sweden has a long history of hosting international sporting events, including the 2013 World Championships in Athletics and the 2016 European Athletics Championships.

The Swedish Olympic Committee has also highlighted the country’s commitment to sustainability. Sweden is a leader in renewable energy and has set ambitious targets for reducing its carbon emissions. The proposal includes plans to use renewable energy sources for the games, as well as measures to reduce waste and promote sustainability.

The IOC will now review Sweden’s proposal and decide whether or not to accept it. If accepted, Sweden will join a list of countries that have already expressed interest in hosting the 2030 Winter Olympics, including Japan, Italy, and Canada.

The submission of Sweden’s preliminary proposal marks an exciting step towards the potential hosting of the 2030 Winter Olympics. With its strong sporting culture and commitment to sustainability, Sweden is well-positioned to make a successful bid for the games. It remains to be seen whether or not the IOC will accept Sweden’s proposal, but the country is certainly making a strong case for itself.
