The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup has been a thrilling tournament, with some of the world’s best players competing for the title. Unfortunately, two of those players, United States’ Megan Swanson and Canada’s Kadeisha Williamson, have had to withdraw from the competition due to injury.
Swanson, who plays for the Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), suffered a knee injury during a match against the Chicago Red Stars on June 15th. She was forced to leave the game early and was subsequently ruled out of the World Cup.
Williamson, who plays for Olympique Lyonnais in France’s Division 1 Féminine, was injured during a training session on June 17th. She was diagnosed with a hamstring strain and was ruled out of the tournament.
The loss of Swanson and Williamson is a major blow to both the United States and Canada teams. Swanson is a key member of the US team, having made over 100 appearances for the national side since her debut in 2013. She is also an experienced defender, having played in the NWSL since 2015.
Williamson is also an important player for Canada, having made over 50 appearances since her debut in 2014. She is an experienced midfielder and has been a key part of Canada’s success in recent years.
Both Swanson and Williamson will be sorely missed at the Women’s World Cup. Their absence will undoubtedly have an impact on their respective teams’ chances of success. However, their teams will have to find a way to cope without them and continue to strive for glory in France.
