The Seattle Seahawks have made some big moves ahead of their Week 17 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. On Tuesday, the team placed safety Jamal Adams on injured reserve and waived defensive end Frank Clark.
Adams, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Jets in July, has been dealing with a shoulder injury since Week 10. He was able to play through the injury for several weeks, but the team decided to shut him down for the remainder of the season. Adams has had an impressive debut season in Seattle, recording 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
Meanwhile, Clark was waived after a disappointing season. The former first-round pick had just three sacks in 15 games this year, and the team decided to part ways with him ahead of their final game of the season.
The Seahawks will now look to their other defensive players to step up in Adams’ absence. Shaquill Griffin, Quandre Diggs, and Ugo Amadi are expected to take on larger roles in the secondary, while Rasheem Green and L.J. Collier will be asked to fill the void left by Clark.
The Seahawks will need all hands on deck if they hope to beat the 49ers and secure a playoff spot. It’s unclear how much of an impact these moves will have on the team’s performance, but it’s clear that Seattle is doing everything they can to give themselves the best chance of success.
