Rays Defeat Red Sox 1-0, Extend Season-Opening Win Streak to 10

Seattle Sports

The Tampa Bay Rays extended their season-opening win streak to 10 games on Tuesday night, defeating the Boston Red Sox 1-0 in a hard-fought battle. The Rays have now won 10 consecutive games to start the season for the first time in franchise history, and are the first team to do so since the 2016 Chicago Cubs.

The game was a pitcher’s duel between Tampa Bay’s Tyler Glasnow and Boston’s Nathan Eovaldi, with both pitchers going the distance. Glasnow was masterful, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out nine batters in seven innings of work. Eovaldi was nearly as good, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five over seven innings.

The only run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Rays’ outfielder Austin Meadows hit a solo home run off of Eovaldi. It was Meadows’ second home run of the season, and it proved to be the difference in the game.

The Rays’ bullpen was also stellar, with Diego Castillo, Chaz Roe, and Nick Anderson combining to pitch two scoreless innings to close out the game. Anderson earned his third save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

The Rays have now won 10 consecutive games to start the season for the first time in franchise history, and are the first team to do so since the 2016 Chicago Cubs. The win also extended Tampa Bay’s lead in the American League East to three games over the second-place Red Sox.

The Rays will look to extend their winning streak to 11 games when they take on the Red Sox again on Wednesday night. With two of the best pitchers in baseball, Blake Snell and Chris Sale, set to take the mound, it should be another exciting matchup between two of the top teams in the American League.
