Oregon freshmen Will Evans and Tyler Shelstad combined for an impressive 43 points in the Ducks’ 82-74 win over USC on Saturday night. The two first-year players have been a major part of the Oregon team’s success this season, and their performance against the Trojans was a big reason why the Ducks were able to come away with the victory.
Evans led the way with 24 points, including four 3-pointers, while Shelstad added 19 points and four assists. The two combined to shoot 16-for-29 from the field, including 6-for-14 from beyond the arc. They also combined for nine rebounds, four steals, and two blocks.
The Ducks have been relying heavily on their freshmen this season, and Evans and Shelstad have been two of the most consistent contributors. Evans is averaging 11.4 points per game while shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from 3-point range. Shelstad is averaging 8.2 points per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range.
The two freshmen have been instrumental in helping the Ducks to a 15-4 record so far this season. Their performance against USC was a prime example of their ability to step up when needed, and it was a major factor in the Ducks’ victory.
The Ducks will look to continue their success as they head into the final stretch of the regular season. With Evans and Shelstad continuing to play at a high level, Oregon will be a tough team to beat in the coming weeks.
