The No. 4 Florida State Seminoles remain undefeated after a 41-16 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday. The Seminoles were led by a strong performance from running back Cam Akers and wide receivers Tamorrion Terry and Keyshawn Helton. However, it was the play of quarterback James Blackman and wide receivers D.J. Matthews and Keith Gavin that really made the difference for the Seminoles.
Blackman threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, while Matthews and Gavin combined for 11 catches and two touchdowns. The Seminoles also got a huge boost from running backs Khalan Laborn and Jacques Patrick, who combined for over 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
But the real stars of the game were wide receivers Nyqwan Murray and Keith Gavin. Murray had six catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, while Gavin had four catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. Both players made several big plays throughout the game that helped the Seminoles pull away from the Demon Deacons.
The Seminoles also got a huge lift from their defense, which held Wake Forest to just 16 points. Linebackers Dontavious Jackson and DeCalon Brooks led the way with seven tackles each, while defensive end Brian Burns had three sacks.
The Seminoles also got a big boost from their special teams, as kicker Ricky Aguayo connected on all four of his field goal attempts, while punter Logan Tyler averaged over 40 yards per punt.
The win over Wake Forest was the Seminoles’ seventh straight win, and they will look to continue their undefeated streak when they take on the Syracuse Orange next Saturday. With the win, Florida State remains in contention for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
The Seminoles have been led all season by their two star players, quarterback James Blackman and running back Cam Akers. But it was the play of wide receivers Nyqwan Murray and Keith Gavin that really made the difference in this game. With their performance against Wake Forest, Murray and Gavin have solidified their place as two of the best wide receivers in college football.
