Nebraska Basketball Starts Season 5-0 with 84-63 Win Over Oregon

The Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s basketball team is off to a hot start this season, with a 5-0 record after their 84-63 win over Oregon State on Saturday. The Cornhuskers were led by senior guard Thorir Thorbjarnarson, who scored a career-high 24 points and added seven rebounds and four assists. Thorbjarnarson was one of four Cornhuskers to score in double figures, as senior forward Isaiah Roby added 16 points and seven rebounds, junior guard Cam Mack had 14 points and seven assists, and freshman forward Yvan Ouedraogo chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.

The Cornhuskers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 24 points in the second half. Nebraska shot a season-high 56.3 percent from the field and held Oregon State to just 37.7 percent shooting. The Cornhuskers also outrebounded the Beavers 40-26, including a 15-4 advantage on the offensive glass.

Nebraska’s defense was the key to the win, as the Cornhuskers forced 18 turnovers and held Oregon State to just 2-of-14 shooting from three-point range. Nebraska also held the Beavers to just two fast break points in the game.

The Cornhuskers have been impressive so far this season, with wins over Creighton, UC Irvine, and now Oregon State. Nebraska has been led by its defense, which has held opponents to just 61.2 points per game and 38.4 percent shooting from the field.

Nebraska will look to continue its hot start when it takes on South Dakota State on Wednesday night. The Cornhuskers will look to build on their 5-0 start and continue to prove that they are a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten this season.
