Mariners Lose 14-9 After Blowing Early 7-Run Lead at Wrigley Field

Mariners, MLB, Sports Seattle

On Saturday, the Seattle Mariners suffered a heartbreaking loss at Wrigley Field in Chicago. After taking an early 7-run lead, the Mariners were unable to hold on and eventually lost 14-9.

The Mariners got off to a hot start in the first inning, scoring seven runs off of Chicago Cubs starter Yu Darvish. The big hit of the inning was a three-run home run by Mitch Haniger. After that, the Mariners were in control and looked like they were on their way to an easy victory.

Unfortunately, the Cubs were able to rally back in the later innings. They scored four runs in the fourth inning and five more in the sixth inning to take the lead. The Mariners were unable to respond and eventually lost the game.

The loss was especially painful for the Mariners, as they had been on a roll recently. They had won four of their last five games and looked like they were on their way to another victory.

The loss was also a missed opportunity for the Mariners, as they could have gained ground on the Oakland Athletics in the American League West standings. Instead, they remain two games behind Oakland with just over a month left in the season.

The Mariners will look to bounce back from this loss when they take on the Cubs again on Sunday. They will need to find a way to hold onto leads if they want to have any chance of making the playoffs this season.
