LSU Women’s Basketball Team Sets NCAA Title Game Record with 59 First-Half Points

The LSU women’s basketball team recently set an NCAA title game record with 59 first-half points in their matchup against Mississippi State. The Tigers went on to win the game, 73-63, and become the first team in NCAA history to score more than 50 points in the first half of a championship game.

The Tigers were led by senior guard Khayla Pointer, who scored a game-high 24 points and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. Pointer was joined by fellow senior guard Ayana Mitchell, who added 18 points and five rebounds, and freshman forward Awa Trasi, who contributed 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Tigers’ offensive performance was impressive, as they shot 56 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range in the first half. They also outrebounded Mississippi State 21-12 in the first half and held the Bulldogs to just 28 percent shooting from the field.

The Tigers’ defense was also impressive, as they held Mississippi State to just 33 points in the second half. The Bulldogs were held to just 37 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from three-point range in the second half.
