The Chicago Bears have placed running back Khalil Herbert on injured reserve, ending his season prematurely. Herbert was signed by the Bears in October and had been a key contributor to the team’s offense.
Herbert had been a pleasant surprise for the Bears, rushing for a total of 267 yards and two touchdowns in five games. He had also been a reliable pass catcher, catching seven passes for 60 yards. He had been a spark for the Bears’ offense, which had been struggling to find consistency all season.
Unfortunately, Herbert suffered a knee injury in the Bears’ Week 14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and was unable to return to the game. After further evaluation, it was determined that Herbert would need to be placed on injured reserve.
The loss of Herbert is a big blow to the Bears’ offense, as he had been a reliable source of production in recent weeks. With him out of the lineup, the Bears will need to rely on other players to step up and fill the void.
The Bears have yet to announce who will take over as the primary running back in Herbert’s absence. However, it is likely that David Montgomery and Cordarrelle Patterson will see an increase in touches moving forward.
The Bears will certainly miss Herbert’s production, but they will have to move forward without him for the remainder of the season. The team will now look to other players to help fill the void left by Herbert’s absence.
