The Grand Canyon Antelopes took down the Portland Pilots in a convincing 91-63 victory at the Jerry Colangelo Classic on Saturday. Grand Canyon was led by senior guard Mike McGlothan, who scored 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field.
McGlothan was a force all night, finishing with four rebounds and four assists in addition to his 26 points. He was joined by sophomore forward Alessandro Lever, who added 15 points and seven rebounds. The Antelopes had four players in double figures, with senior guard Oscar Frayer adding 14 points and junior guard Carlos Johnson chipping in with 12.
The Antelopes jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 30 points in the second half. Grand Canyon shot a blistering 57.6 percent from the field and held Portland to just 37.3 percent shooting. The Antelopes also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Pilots 36-21.
The victory was a big one for Grand Canyon, who improved to 11-3 on the season. It was also a strong performance for McGlothan, who has been a consistent contributor all season long. He is averaging 17.4 points per game and is shooting an impressive 50.5 percent from the field.
The Jerry Colangelo Classic has been a great event for Grand Canyon, as they have now won three straight games at the event. The Antelopes will look to keep their momentum going as they take on the Arizona Wildcats next Saturday.
