Former NFL Player Frank Wycheck, Who Threw Iconic ‘Music City Miracle’ Lateral, Passes Away at Age 52

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of former NFL player Frank Wycheck, who died at the age of 52. Wycheck was best known for his role in the iconic “Music City Miracle” play during the 1999-2000 NFL playoffs.

Wycheck was a tight end for the Tennessee Titans, and was selected in the third round of the 1995 NFL Draft. He played for the Titans for nine seasons, and was a three-time Pro Bowler. He was also selected to the All-Pro team in 2000.

But it was his role in the “Music City Miracle” that will be remembered most. In the final seconds of a wild card playoff game against the Buffalo Bills, Wycheck threw a lateral pass to Kevin Dyson, who then ran 75 yards for a touchdown to give the Titans the win. The play was later dubbed the “Music City Miracle” by fans and media.

Wycheck retired from the NFL in 2003, and went on to become an analyst for Titans radio broadcasts. He was also involved in numerous charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Special Olympics.

Wycheck will be remembered as one of the most beloved players in Titans history. His legacy will live on through his iconic “Music City Miracle” play, and his charitable work. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
