Seattle Sports

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eric Montross, a former University of North Carolina and NBA player, at the age of 52. Montross had been battling cancer for the past few years and sadly succumbed to the disease.

Montross was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1968 and attended Lawrence North High School, where he was named Indiana Mr. Basketball in 1986. He then went on to play college basketball at the University of North Carolina, where he was a two-time All-American and led the Tar Heels to the 1993 NCAA Championship. He was then drafted by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 1994 NBA Draft and went on to play for the Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Detroit Pistons.

Montross was known for his hard work and dedication to the game. He was a consummate professional and a great teammate. He was also known for his charity work, having founded the Eric Montross Foundation, which provides financial assistance to families in need.

Montross will be remembered as one of the most beloved players in UNC history. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and those who followed his career. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
