On Tuesday, the Milwaukee Brewers announced that shortstop Orlando Adames was placed on the 10-day injured list after being hit by a foul ball in the dugout during Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Adames was hit in the face by a foul ball off the bat of Reds outfielder Jesse Winker in the bottom of the sixth inning. He was immediately taken out of the game and taken to a local hospital for evaluation. After further examination, it was determined that Adames suffered a facial fracture and will need to be placed on the injured list.
The Brewers have yet to announce a timeline for Adames’ return, but the injury is expected to keep him out of action for at least a few weeks. In the meantime, the Brewers have called up infielder Nate Orf to take Adames’ place on the roster.
Adames has been an important part of the Brewers’ lineup this season, batting .274 with two home runs and 15 RBIs in 32 games. His absence will be a big blow to the team’s offense, as they are already without slugger Christian Yelich, who is out for the season with a knee injury.
The Brewers will now have to rely on their depth players to fill the void left by Adames. Orf is expected to get most of the playing time at shortstop in Adames’ absence, but utility players Hernan Perez and Tyler Saladino could also see some action.
The Brewers hope that Adames can make a speedy recovery and return to the lineup soon. Until then, they will have to make do without one of their key contributors.
