The New York Jets could be parting ways with Denzel Mims, their second-round pick from the 2020 NFL Draft. According to multiple AP sources, the team is considering releasing the wide receiver if they cannot find a trade partner.
Mims was selected with the 59th overall pick in the draft and was expected to make an immediate impact on the Jets’ offense. However, he has struggled to stay healthy during his rookie season and has only appeared in six games so far. He has recorded just 11 receptions for 189 yards and one touchdown.
The Jets have been actively trying to trade Mims in recent weeks, but have yet to find a suitable partner. If they cannot find a trade partner, they may be forced to release him in order to free up cap space for the 2021 season.
This would be a disappointing outcome for the Jets, who were hoping Mims would be a key contributor this season. His size and speed made him an attractive prospect coming out of Baylor, and the Jets were hoping he could be a reliable target for quarterback Sam Darnold.
It remains to be seen what the Jets will do with Mims, but it is clear that his future in New York is uncertain. If the team cannot find a trade partner, they may have no choice but to release him and move on from their second-round pick.
