The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced that it will issue a commemorative stamp honoring legendary basketball coach John Wooden in 2024. Wooden, who passed away in 2010, was one of the most successful and influential coaches in the history of the game.
The stamp will feature a portrait of Wooden, along with his signature and the words “John Wooden: A Legend in Basketball.” The USPS said that the stamp is intended to honor Wooden’s “legacy of excellence, sportsmanship, and leadership.”
Wooden was an iconic figure in basketball, leading the UCLA Bruins to 10 NCAA championships over a 12-year period from 1964-1975. He was also known for his unique coaching style, which emphasized fundamentals, discipline, and hard work. His famous Pyramid of Success, which outlines his philosophy of success on and off the court, is still used by coaches and players today.
The USPS said that the stamp will be issued in 2024 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Wooden’s birth. The stamp will be available for purchase at post offices nationwide, as well as online.
John Wooden was a true innovator and pioneer in the world of basketball, and the USPS is proud to honor him with this commemorative stamp. It’s a fitting tribute to a man whose legacy continues to inspire generations of athletes and coaches.
