The Philadelphia Phillies’ season came to a heartbreaking end on Saturday night, as the team lost the National League Championship Series (NLCS) to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a thrilling Game 7. Despite a strong performance from star outfielder Bryce Harper, the Phillies were unable to overcome the Diamondbacks’ late-inning surge and fell 5-4 in the deciding game.
Harper had been one of the Phillies’ most consistent hitters throughout the series, and he continued that trend in Game 7. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs, including a two-run shot in the fifth inning that gave the Phillies a 4-2 lead. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to hold off the Diamondbacks, who rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the lead for good.
The loss was especially disappointing for Harper, who had been one of the Phillies’ most reliable players all season. He hit .260 with 34 home runs and 114 RBIs during the regular season, and he continued to be a force in the playoffs. In the NLCS alone, he hit .333 with three home runs and eight RBIs.
Despite the loss, it was still an impressive season for the Phillies. After finishing third in their division last year, they managed to make it all the way to Game 7 of the NLCS this year. With Harper leading the way, they should be a force to be reckoned with in 2019.
