The Colorado Rockies ended their six-game losing streak in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, as starting pitcher Jonathon Goodman earned his first win of the season in a 4-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
Goodman was outstanding in his seven innings of work, allowing just three runs on four hits while striking out seven batters. He was in control all night, and the Rockies’ offense backed him up with timely hitting.
The Rockies got off to a fast start, scoring two runs in the first inning on a solo home run by Trevor Story and an RBI single from Ryan McMahon. They added another run in the fourth inning on a solo shot from Nolan Arenado.
The Orioles got on the board in the fifth inning with a solo home run from Trey Mancini, and then tied the game in the seventh inning on a two-run double from Chris Davis.
But the Rockies responded in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Story hit a go-ahead solo home run to give them a 4-3 lead. The Orioles threatened in the ninth inning, but reliever Wade Davis was able to close out the game and give Goodman his first win of the season.
The victory was a much-needed one for the Rockies, who had been struggling of late. The win snapped their six-game losing streak and gave them some much-needed momentum heading into their next game.
Goodman was the star of the night, as he pitched seven strong innings and earned his first win of the season. He was backed up by some timely hitting from Story and Arenado, and some clutch relief pitching from Davis.
It was a much-needed win for the Rockies, and it should give them some confidence heading into their next game. If they can keep playing like they did on Wednesday night, they should be able to get back on track and make a run at the playoffs.
