The New York Jets had high hopes for their offense this season, but those hopes were quickly dashed in their 27-6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Quarterback Zach Wilson had a particularly rough outing, throwing for just 215 yards and two interceptions.
The Jets had a chance to take the lead in the first quarter after a long drive, but Wilson was intercepted in the end zone. The Chargers then scored 17 unanswered points, and the Jets never recovered.
Wilson was unable to get anything going in the passing game, completing just 22 of his 33 attempts. He was also sacked four times and fumbled twice, losing one of them. The Jets offense was unable to get into any sort of rhythm, and Wilson was unable to make any big plays.
The Jets running game also struggled, with running back La’Mical Perine being held to just 48 yards on 15 carries. The Jets were unable to establish any sort of balance between the run and the pass, and it showed in their lack of offensive production.
The Jets defense also struggled, allowing the Chargers to score on all five of their red zone trips. The defense was unable to get any pressure on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, who completed 24 of his 34 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns.
The Jets will need to make some major improvements if they want to have any chance of success this season. They need to find a way to get more out of Wilson and the offense, as well as shore up their defense. If they can do that, they may be able to turn things around and have a successful season.
