The Wenatchee Panthers volleyball team made history on Saturday, November 23rd when they defeated the North Creek Jaguars 3-1 in the 4A State Volleyball Championship. It was an intense match that saw the Panthers take the first two sets 25-20 and 25-21 before the Jaguars battled back to take the third set 25-22. However, the Panthers regrouped and closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set to take home the championship.
The Panthers had a strong showing all season long, finishing with a record of 22-2. They were led by their star senior outside hitter, Rachel Smith, who had an impressive performance in the championship match. Smith had a total of 18 kills and 11 digs to help lead the Panthers to victory.
The championship win was especially sweet for the Panthers as it was their first since 2010. The team had come close in recent years, but this year they were determined to get over the hump and bring home the title.
The Panthers were also able to avenge a loss earlier in the season to North Creek. The Jaguars had beaten Wenatchee 3-2 in a regular season matchup back in October. However, Wenatchee was able to turn the tables in the championship match and come away with the victory.
The Wenatchee Panthers have certainly made their mark on Washington State volleyball history. They will forever be remembered as the 2019 4A State Champions and will be looking to defend their title next season. Congratulations to the Wenatchee Panthers on their championship victory!
