The Washington Huskies volleyball team faced a tough opponent in No. 5 Stanford on Saturday night, and unfortunately, they were unable to come away with the win. The Huskies put up a good fight, but ultimately fell to the Cardinal in four sets, 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, and 25-19.
Washington was led by senior outside hitter Kara Bajema, who had a team-high 15 kills and added three blocks and two digs. Senior middle blocker Avie Niece also had a strong performance, recording 11 kills and four blocks. Senior setter Ella May Powell had a game-high 37 assists and also added five digs.
The Huskies had a good start to the match, taking the first set 25-22. They were able to keep the momentum going in the second set, but Stanford was able to take control and win 25-20. Washington was able to regroup and take the third set 25-20, but the Cardinal proved to be too strong in the fourth set, winning 25-19.
Despite the loss, the Huskies can take some positives from the match. They showed that they can compete with one of the top teams in the country and that they have the potential to make a deep run in the postseason.
Washington will look to bounce back when they take on Oregon State on Thursday night. The Huskies will need to put together a complete performance if they want to come away with the win.
