The Washington State Women’s Basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss in overtime to California on Saturday night. The Cougars had a chance to win the game in the final seconds of regulation, but a missed shot sent the game into overtime.
In the extra period, the Cougars were unable to keep up with the Golden Bears, as California outscored Washington State 11-4 in the five-minute overtime period. The final score was 79-74 in favor of California.
Washington State was led by senior guard Chanelle Molina, who scored a team-high 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. She also had four assists and three steals in the loss. Senior forward Borislava Hristova added 17 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars.
The loss was a tough one for Washington State, as they had been playing well leading up to the game. The Cougars had won three of their last four games and were looking to build on that momentum against California.
The loss drops Washington State to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in Pac-12 play. The Cougars will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they host Arizona State.
Washington State will need to find a way to get back on track if they want to make a run at the Pac-12 title this season. It won’t be easy, but with Molina and Hristova leading the way, the Cougars have a chance to make some noise in the conference.
