Washington State University quarterback Cam Ward has announced he will enter the NCAA transfer portal and explore the option of entering the NFL Draft.
Ward, a redshirt junior, started all 12 games for the Cougars this season, throwing for 2,919 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also rushed for 545 yards and five touchdowns.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound quarterback was one of the most productive signal-callers in the Pac-12 this season, leading the conference in total offense (3,464 yards) and total touchdowns (23). He also ranked second in passing yards and third in passing touchdowns.
Ward was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 for his performance this season. He was also named the team’s Offensive MVP.
The decision to enter the transfer portal and explore the NFL Draft option was not an easy one for Ward, but he believes it is the best decision for his future.
“I want to thank Washington State University for the opportunity to be a part of the Cougar family,” Ward said in a statement. “I have enjoyed my time here and am forever grateful for the relationships I have built. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal and explore my options for the future. I am also exploring the possibility of entering the NFL Draft.”
Ward is expected to be a highly sought-after prospect in both the transfer portal and the NFL Draft. He has all the physical tools to be successful at the next level and has shown he can be a productive quarterback in a Power 5 conference.
It will be interesting to see where Ward ends up next season, but one thing is certain: wherever he goes, he will be an impact player.
