Washington State University quarterback Cam Ward has announced his intent to enter the 2021 NFL Draft. Ward, a redshirt junior, has been a standout for the Cougars since taking over the starting role in 2018.
In his three seasons with the Cougars, Ward has thrown for 8,851 yards and 60 touchdowns, while completing 63.7% of his passes. He also rushed for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns during that time. Ward was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2020 after leading the Cougars to a 4-2 record and a bowl game appearance.
Ward’s decision to enter the draft comes as no surprise, as he has been projected as a potential first-round pick in many mock drafts. He is considered one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft class and is expected to be a hot commodity come April.
The NFL Draft will be held April 29-May 1 in Cleveland, Ohio. Ward will join a talented group of quarterbacks that includes Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance, and Alabama’s Mac Jones.
Ward’s decision to enter the draft is a testament to his hard work and dedication to the game of football. He has been a leader both on and off the field for the Cougars and will be sorely missed next season. We wish him all the best as he embarks on this next chapter of his career.
