As the college football season approaches, Washington State fans are eagerly awaiting the start of the season. With the Cougars set to open their season against Oregon State on September 4th, it’s time to start looking at the offensive two-deep for the opener.

At quarterback, the Cougars will be led by fifth-year senior Anthony Gordon. Gordon has been a backup for the past three seasons, but he is ready to take the reigns of the offense this year. He has been praised for his accuracy and decision-making, and he should be a reliable leader for the offense. Backing him up will be redshirt freshman Gunner Cruz. Cruz is a dual-threat quarterback who has shown promise in practice and should be a valuable asset to the team.

At running back, the Cougars will have a deep and talented group. Senior James Williams returns after rushing for over 1,000 yards last season, and he should be the leader of the group. He will be backed up by sophomore Max Borghi, who is a dynamic playmaker with the ability to make big plays. Redshirt freshman Deon McIntosh and true freshman Isaiah Jackson will also be in the mix for carries.

The wide receiver group is led by senior Dezmon Patmon, who is coming off a strong junior season. He will be joined by sophomores Jamire Calvin and Renard Bell, who both have plenty of potential. Redshirt freshman Travell Harris will also be in the mix for playing time.

The tight end position is a bit of a question mark, as senior Cade Otton is the only returning player with any experience. He will be backed up by redshirt freshman Mason Vinyard and true freshman Hunter Bryant.

The offensive line returns four starters from last season, with redshirt freshman Abraham Lucas likely to start at left tackle. Senior Andre Dillard will start at left guard, while junior Frederick Mauigoa will start at center. Senior Liam Ryan and redshirt freshman Robert Valencia will start at right guard and right tackle, respectively.

Washington State’s offense should be one of the best in the Pac-12 this season, and they have the talent to make some noise in the conference. With a veteran quarterback leading the way, the Cougars should be able to put up some big numbers this season.
