UW Women’s Basketball Defeats Sacramento State 76-28 in Season Opener

The University of Washington women’s basketball team opened their season in impressive fashion, defeating Sacramento State 76-28. The Huskies dominated the game from start to finish, outscoring the Hornets in every quarter.

The Huskies were led by senior guard Amber Melgoza, who scored a game-high 24 points. She was joined by freshman guard Missy Peterson, who added 15 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Mai-Loni Henson also had a strong performance, with 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Huskies defense was also impressive, holding the Hornets to just 28 points. The Huskies forced 19 turnovers and held Sacramento State to just 28 percent shooting from the field. The Huskies also outrebounded the Hornets 44-26.
