The University of Washington Huskies football team kicked off their preseason camp this week with their first practice. The team is looking to build on the success of last season and make a run at the Pac-12 title. The Huskies have a lot of talent returning and the coaching staff is excited to get the season underway.
The first practice was held at Husky Stadium and was open to the public. The team ran through a variety of drills and exercises designed to get them ready for the upcoming season. The offense worked on timing and route running while the defense focused on tackling and pass coverage. The team also worked on special teams, including punting, kicking, and returning.
The coaching staff was pleased with the effort and enthusiasm of the players. Head coach Chris Petersen said, “It was great to see the energy and enthusiasm of our players. We have a lot of work to do but I think we’re off to a good start.”
The team will continue to practice throughout the preseason in preparation for their season opener against Auburn on September 1st. The Huskies will have several scrimmages against other teams in the Pac-12 as well as an inter-squad scrimmage before the season begins.
The Huskies have high expectations for this season and the preseason camp is an important step in achieving those goals. The team is looking forward to the challenge of competing in the Pac-12 and making a run at the conference title. With the first practice out of the way, the team is now focused on continuing to improve and getting ready for the season opener.
