Near midnight on Oct. 22, Kalen DeBoer sat in a makeshift interview room off the tunnel in California Memorial Stadium. His 6-2 Huskies had just outlasted Cal 28-21 for their first road win, achieving bowl eligibility in the process.
But the prickliest part of their schedule still lay ahead.
“The games in November are the ones you remember,” said UW’s first-year coach, with Oregon State, Oregon, Colorado and Washington State sitting on the other side of a welcome bye. “That’s what we’ve set ourselves up for, as far as trying to make a big run and keep pushing.”
Now, they’re set up for a sequel.
A year after sweeping Oregon State, Oregon, Colorado and WSU and closing an 11-2 season with a seven-game winning streak, DeBoer’s team faces another daunting November this fall. The No. 8 Huskies will cap the 2023 campaign with games at No. 12 USC on Nov. 4, at home against No. 10 Utah on Nov. 11 and at No. 17 Oregon State on Nov. 18, before hosting the Apple Cup against WSU on Nov. 25.
If the games in November are the ones you remember, DeBoer and Co. are hoping for more happy memories.
As for the rest of the slate, UW and Oregon will also both receive a bye before facing off in Seattle on Oct. 14.
