The University of Southern California Trojans had a historic night in the 2019 Holiday Bowl, as quarterback Kedon Slovis set a Holiday Bowl record with six touchdown passes in USC’s 42-28 victory over No. 16 Louisville.
Slovis, a freshman, was making his first bowl game appearance and he made it count. He completed 30 of 33 passes for 377 yards and the six touchdowns, setting a Holiday Bowl record for most touchdown passes in a single game. Slovis also set a USC record for most touchdown passes in a bowl game, surpassing the previous record of five set by Matt Barkley in the 2012 Sun Bowl.
The Trojans were led by their defense, which held Louisville to just 28 points and forced three turnovers. The defense was particularly impressive in the second half, as they held the Cardinals to just seven points and forced two interceptions.
USC’s offense was also impressive, as they scored 42 points and racked up 515 total yards. Running back Vavae Malepeai ran for a career-high 154 yards and two touchdowns, while wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. had seven catches for a career-high 199 yards and two touchdowns.
The win was USC’s first bowl victory since 2016 and their first win over a ranked opponent since 2017. It was also the Trojans’ first win over Louisville since 2009.
The victory was a huge boost for USC’s program, as they look to build on their success from this season and continue to compete for championships in the future. With Slovis at the helm, the Trojans have the potential to be one of the top teams in the country.
