On Thursday, March 28th, the University of Washington Women’s Basketball team made history by defeating the Oregon Ducks in the quarterfinals of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). The Huskies, who had never advanced past the second round of the tournament before, won the game by a score of 68-60.

The Huskies were led by senior guard Amber Melgoza, who scored a career-high 33 points and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Melgoza was joined by fellow senior guard Missy Peterson, who added 14 points and seven rebounds. The two combined for 47 of the team’s 68 points, and their leadership was instrumental in the Huskies’ victory.

The Huskies’ win was especially impressive considering that Oregon had won the Pac-12 regular season title and had been ranked in the top 25 all season. The Ducks had also won the previous two meetings between the two teams this season.

The victory was a huge accomplishment for the Huskies, who have been building towards this success for years. Head coach Jody Wynn has been at the helm since 2014 and has steadily improved the program each year. This season, the Huskies finished with a 21-11 record and earned a spot in the WNIT for the first time since 2013.

The Huskies will now face off against South Dakota State in the semifinals of the WNIT on Saturday, March 30th. The winner of that game will advance to the championship game, which will be held on April 2nd.

The University of Washington Women’s Basketball team has made history by advancing to the semifinals of the WNIT. Led by seniors Amber Melgoza and Missy Peterson, the Huskies have defied expectations and are now just two wins away from winning the tournament. With their sights set on a championship, the Huskies are sure to make more history in the coming days.
