The UConn Huskies have done it again! On April 5th, 2021, the UConn Huskies defeated the San Diego State Aztecs 76-59 to become the 2021 NCAA March Madness Champions. This marks the fifth time in program history that the UConn Huskies have won the NCAA March Madness Championship, and their first since 2014.
The Huskies were led by star guard Paige Bueckers, who scored a game-high 24 points and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. Bueckers was joined by fellow guard Evina Westbrook, who added 15 points and five assists, and forward Aaliyah Edwards, who scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Huskies dominated the game from start to finish, outscoring the Aztecs in every quarter and never relinquishing their lead.
The Huskies’ win was a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season. Despite having a young roster, they managed to go undefeated in conference play and beat some of the best teams in the country on their way to the championship. They also had to overcome adversity, such as injuries to key players and a mid-season pause due to COVID-19 protocols.
The win was also a testament to the leadership of head coach Geno Auriemma. Auriemma has been at the helm of the Huskies since 1985 and has led them to 11 national championships in that time. He is widely considered one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history and his latest championship is a testament to his ability to get the most out of his players.
The UConn Huskies have once again proven that they are one of the best teams in college basketball. Their win over the San Diego State Aztecs was a fitting end to an incredible season, and they will look to continue their success in the years to come. Congratulations to the UConn Huskies on their 2021 NCAA March Madness Championship!
