Tye Kartye is a name that is becoming more and more familiar in the hockey world. After going undrafted in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Kartye has been on a mission to prove himself and make it to the NHL. Kartye’s journey began in his hometown of Edmonton, Alberta. He played his minor hockey there before moving on to the Western Hockey League’s Edmonton Oil Kings. In his two seasons with the Oil Kings, Kartye was a point-per-game player, scoring a combined 86 points in 85 games. Despite his impressive numbers, he was not selected in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
Rather than giving up on his dream, Kartye decided to take the college route and committed to the University of North Dakota. He had an impressive freshman season with the Fighting Hawks, scoring 11 goals and 24 points in 33 games. His strong play earned him a spot on the 2021 World Junior Championship roster for Team Canada.
Kartye’s strong play continued into his sophomore season at North Dakota. He was named an alternate captain for the Fighting Hawks and led the team in scoring with 15 goals and 37 points in 33 games. His impressive play caught the attention of the Seattle Kraken, who signed him to an entry-level contract in March 2021.
Kartye has since been invited to the Kraken’s training camp and is expected to make the team’s roster for their inaugural season. If he does make the team, he will be a great addition to the Kraken’s lineup and will be a testament to his hard work and dedication.
