On Wednesday, November 6th, 2019, the US Soccer Hall of Fame welcomed its newest inductee: Tim Howard. The former US Men’s National Team goalkeeper was honored for his incredible career and contributions to the sport.
Tim Howard began his professional career in 1998 with the North Jersey Imperials of the USL A-League. He then moved to Major League Soccer in 2003, playing for the MetroStars (now known as the New York Red Bulls). During his time with the MetroStars, he was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2001 and was an MLS All-Star in 2002.
In 2006, Howard joined Everton FC of the English Premier League and quickly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league. He was voted Everton’s Player of the Season in 2009 and 2011, and was named to the PFA Team of the Year in 2010. He also made a record-breaking 15 saves in a single game against Bolton Wanderers in 2012.
Howard also had a successful career with the US Men’s National Team, making 121 appearances from 2002 to 2017. He was part of the team that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2005 and 2007, and he was named to the CONCACAF Gold Cup Best XI in 2007. He also helped the US reach the Round of 16 in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where he made a record-breaking 16 saves against Belgium.
Tim Howard’s accomplishments and contributions to soccer have earned him a well-deserved induction into the US Soccer Hall of Fame. He is an inspiration to aspiring soccer players everywhere, and his legacy will live on for many years to come.
