For the 29th consecutive year, the South Carolina women’s basketball team has been ranked number one in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Gamecocks earned unanimous No. 1 votes from the 32-member national media panel for the first time since the 2018-19 season.

The Gamecocks, who are led by head coach Dawn Staley, have been a dominant force in the SEC for years. They have won six straight SEC regular season titles and four consecutive SEC tournament championships. This year, they are off to a great start with a 9-1 record and have already beaten two top-10 opponents.

The Gamecocks have been ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll for the past five seasons, and this year they are ranked sixth. They are the only team in the top 10 that is undefeated in conference play.

The Gamecocks have a talented roster with four players averaging double-digit points per game. Senior guard Tyasha Harris leads the team with 13.7 points per game, while senior forward Mikiah Herbert Harrigan is second on the team with 12.3 points per game. Senior forward Alexis Jennings and junior guard Destanni Henderson are also averaging double-digit points per game.

The Gamecocks have a tough schedule ahead of them, but they have the talent and experience to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament. With their strong defense and balanced offense, they are a team to watch out for this season.

South Carolina’s success this season is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaches. Their commitment to excellence has been rewarded with their No. 1 ranking, and they will look to continue their success in the coming weeks and months.
