The Seattle Seahawks have made some big moves ahead of the NFL roster cutdown deadline. On Saturday, the team announced that they had waived five players: wide receivers Keenan Reynolds and Jazz Ferguson, defensive tackle Bryan Mone, cornerback Ryan Neal, and tight end Stephen Sullivan.
The Seahawks had to make some tough decisions in order to get down to the league-mandated 53-man roster limit. Reynolds and Ferguson were both undrafted free agents who had been competing for a spot on the team’s receiving corps. Mone was a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and had been expected to compete for a spot on the defensive line. Neal was an undrafted free agent who had been competing for a spot in the secondary. Sullivan was a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft who had been trying to make the team as a tight end.
While these players may not have made the final cut, they all have a chance to be signed to the team’s practice squad. The practice squad is a group of up to 16 players who are not part of the active roster but can practice with the team and be called up to the active roster if needed.
The Seahawks now have until 4 p.m. ET on Sunday to make their final roster cuts and get down to the 53-man limit. After that, they will have until Tuesday to sign up to 10 players to their practice squad. It will be interesting to see which players make the final cut and which ones end up on the practice squad.
The Seahawks have made some tough decisions ahead of the roster cutdown deadline, but they will have to make even more tough decisions in order to put together a competitive team for the upcoming season. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the coming days.
