The Seattle Seahawks had high hopes for the start of the 2020 NFL season, but their season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Rams was a major disappointment. The Seahawks were outplayed in all three phases of the game, and the final score of 20-30 was indicative of the struggles they faced throughout the contest.
On offense, the Seahawks were unable to get much going. Quarterback Russell Wilson had a rough outing, throwing for just 198 yards and one touchdown while also being sacked four times. The running game was also ineffective, with Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde combining for just 64 yards on the ground. The offensive line struggled to create running lanes and protect Wilson, and the Seahawks were unable to sustain any drives.
The defense was also unable to contain the Rams’ offense. Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns, and the Rams’ running game was able to gain 132 yards on the ground. The Seahawks’ secondary was unable to keep up with the Rams’ receivers, and they were unable to generate any pressure on Goff.
The special teams unit also had a rough outing. Punter Michael Dickson was unable to flip the field, and the Seahawks allowed two long returns that set up easy scores for the Rams.
Overall, it was a disappointing performance from the Seahawks in their season opener. They will need to find ways to improve in all three phases of the game if they want to have any chance of success this season.
