Seattle Seahawks Cornerback Tariq Woolen Undergoes Knee Surgery

NFL, Seahawks, Sports Seattle

On Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks announced that cornerback Tariq Woolen underwent successful knee surgery. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews and is expected to keep Woolen out of action for the remainder of the 2020 season.

Woolen, a third-round draft pick in 2019, had been a key contributor for the Seahawks secondary this season. He had recorded 24 tackles, two interceptions, and four passes defended in nine games. He was also a key part of Seattle’s defense against the run, as he had recorded 10 tackles for loss this season.

The injury occurred during the Seahawks’ Week 11 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Woolen was forced to leave the game early due to a knee injury and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. After further evaluation, it was determined that surgery was necessary to repair the damage.

The Seahawks will now have to rely on their other cornerbacks to fill the void left by Woolen. Shaquill Griffin, Tre Flowers, and Neiko Thorpe are all expected to see increased roles in the secondary. Additionally, the team is likely to add another cornerback via free agency or the draft to help bolster their depth at the position.

The loss of Woolen is a significant blow to the Seahawks defense, but the team is confident that they have the personnel to make up for his absence. While it is unfortunate that Woolen will miss the remainder of the season, the team is hopeful that he will make a full recovery and be ready to go for the 2021 season.
