Saquon Barkley Signs Franchise Tag, Remains with New York Giants

NFL Seattle

The New York Giants have secured the future of their star running back Saquon Barkley for at least one more season. On March 5th, Barkley officially signed the franchise tag, which will keep him with the Giants for the 2021 season.

Barkley, who was the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has been a key part of the Giants’ offense since he joined the team. He has rushed for over 3,000 yards and scored 25 rushing touchdowns in his three seasons with the Giants. He is also a dangerous receiving threat out of the backfield, having caught over 200 passes for 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The Giants were determined to keep Barkley in their backfield for 2021 and beyond, but they were unable to reach a long-term agreement with him before the March 9th deadline to sign franchise players. As a result, they decided to use the franchise tag on him, which will keep him with the team for at least one more season.

The franchise tag will pay Barkley a guaranteed salary of $18 million for 2021. However, it also gives the Giants and Barkley more time to work out a long-term deal that would keep him with the team for years to come.

The Giants are thrilled to have Barkley back in their backfield for 2021 and beyond. He is one of the most dynamic players in the NFL and has been a major part of the team’s offense since he joined the team in 2018. With Barkley in the backfield, the Giants have one of the most potent offenses in the league and will be a force to be reckoned with in 2021.
