The New Orleans Saints defense put on a show in their 20-17 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Led by defensive end Cameron Jordan and cornerback Marshon Lattimore, the Saints held the Panthers’ rookie quarterback Bryce Young to just 17 points. Young, who was making his first career start, was unable to find any success against the Saints’ defense, completing just 14 of his 33 pass attempts for a total of 143 yards.
The Saints’ defense was also able to limit the Panthers’ running game, holding them to just 64 yards on the ground. This was largely due to the stellar play of linebackers Demario Davis and Alex Anzalone, who combined for 14 tackles and two sacks. The Saints’ defensive line also played a key role in the victory, as they were able to put constant pressure on Young and disrupt the Panthers’ offensive rhythm.
The Saints’ offense was also able to capitalize on the Panthers’ mistakes, as running back Tony Jones Jr. scored two touchdowns in the second half. Jones Jr. had a total of 73 yards on the ground and was able to break off several big runs, including a 27-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Quarterback Jameis Winston also played well, completing 22 of his 33 pass attempts for 249 yards and one touchdown.
Overall, it was a great team effort by the Saints, as they were able to limit the Panthers’ offense and take advantage of their mistakes. The defense was able to keep Young in check and the offense was able to capitalize on their opportunities. With this win, the Saints improved to 5-2 on the season and remain in contention for a playoff spot.
