The University of Washington men’s basketball team is celebrating a major win this week. Sahvir Wheeler, the Huskies’ star point guard, has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week.
Wheeler, a freshman from Houston, Texas, has been a key contributor to the Huskies’ success this season. He leads the team in assists and is second in scoring. He’s also been a leader on the defensive end, averaging 1.6 steals per game.
In the two games that earned him the honor, Wheeler averaged 18.5 points, 8.0 assists, and 4.5 rebounds. He had a career-high 24 points in a win over Oregon State and followed that up with 13 points and 11 assists in a win over Oregon.
Wheeler is the first freshman to be named Pac-12 Player of the Week since Washington’s Markelle Fultz in 2016. He is also the first Husky to win the award since Jaylen Nowell in 2018.
The Huskies are off to a great start this season, and Wheeler has been a big part of their success. His ability to score, distribute, and defend makes him a valuable asset to the team. With Wheeler at the helm, the Huskies have a great chance of making a deep run in the Pac-12 tournament and beyond.
Congratulations to Sahvir Wheeler on being named Pac-12 Player of the Week!
