MLB Seattle

It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Ryan Minor, the former Baltimore Orioles third baseman who succeeded Cal Ripken in his record-breaking streak of consecutive games played. Minor passed away at the age of 49.

Minor was born in 1970 and was drafted by the Orioles in the third round of the 1992 amateur draft. He made his major league debut for the Orioles in 1997 and played for them until 2000. In 1998, Minor was called up to replace Cal Ripken who had set a record of 2,632 consecutive games played. Minor played in 22 games before Ripken returned to the lineup.

Minor was a talented player and a fan favorite during his time with the Orioles. He was known for his strong defense and his ability to hit for power. He was also a leader in the clubhouse and a mentor to younger players.

After leaving the Orioles, Minor went on to play for several other teams including the Texas Rangers, Montreal Expos, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He retired from baseball in 2004.

Minor will be remembered as a great player and a great person. He was an inspiration to many and will be missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
