The Oakland Raiders continued their winning ways on Sunday, defeating the New York Jets 16-12 to improve to 2-0 under head coach Jon Gruden and rookie running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs was the star of the game, rushing for 116 yards on 24 carries and scoring a touchdown. His performance was instrumental in helping the Raiders control the clock and keep the Jets offense off the field.
The Raiders defense also stepped up, limiting the Jets to just 12 points and forcing three turnovers. Linebacker Tahir Whitehead had a big day, recording nine tackles and two sacks. He was a disruptive force all day, helping to shut down the Jets’ running game and put pressure on quarterback Sam Darnold.
The Raiders offense was efficient, but not explosive. Quarterback Derek Carr completed 18 of 30 passes for just 142 yards and no touchdowns. However, he was able to move the chains and keep the Jets defense off balance. Tight end Darren Waller caught six passes for 63 yards, while wide receiver Tyrell Williams had four receptions for 39 yards.
The Raiders have now won two straight games under Gruden and Jacobs has been a major factor in both victories. He has rushed for over 100 yards in both games and has scored three touchdowns. His presence in the backfield has given the Raiders a much-needed boost and has helped them control the clock and keep their defense fresh.
The Raiders will look to keep their winning streak alive next week when they face the Minnesota Vikings. If Jacobs can continue his strong play and the defense can force turnovers, Oakland could be in position to make a run in the AFC West.
