Professional Women’s Hockey League Announces Original 6 Teams: 3 in US and 3 in Canada

The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) recently announced the six original teams that will make up the league. The teams will be split between three in the United States and three in Canada. This is a major milestone for women’s hockey and a huge step forward in the development of the sport.

The three teams in the United States are the Minnesota Whitecaps, Connecticut Whale, and Boston Pride. The Minnesota Whitecaps are based out of St. Paul, Minnesota and will be playing their home games at the TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center. The Connecticut Whale will be based out of Stamford, Connecticut and will be playing their home games at Terry Conners Ice Rink. The Boston Pride will be based out of Boston, Massachusetts and will be playing their home games at Warrior Ice Arena.

The three teams in Canada are the Toronto Six, Calgary Inferno, and Les Canadiennes de Montreal. The Toronto Six will be based out of Toronto, Ontario and will be playing their home games at Scotiabank Arena. The Calgary Inferno will be based out of Calgary, Alberta and will be playing their home games at WinSport Arena. Les Canadiennes de Montreal will be based out of Montreal, Quebec and will be playing their home games at Place Bell.

This is an exciting time for women’s hockey as the PWHL is the first professional league for women’s hockey in North America. This is a great opportunity for female hockey players to pursue their dreams of playing professionally and to inspire the next generation of female hockey players. The league is set to begin play in the 2021-2022 season and it is sure to be an exciting time for the sport of women’s hockey.
