The Pittsburgh Panthers have done it again! On Friday, November 29th, the Panthers defeated the Oregon State Beavers 76-51 to claim third place at the NIT Season Tip-Off.
The game was a back-and-forth affair for most of the first half, with the Panthers leading by just three points at halftime. But in the second half, the Panthers took control, outscoring the Beavers by 25 points.
The Panthers were led by senior forward Ryan Luther, who scored a game-high 21 points and added seven rebounds. Senior guard Cameron Johnson also had a strong performance, scoring 17 points and grabbing six rebounds.
The Beavers were led by junior guard Stephen Thompson Jr., who scored 15 points and had four rebounds. Senior forward Tres Tinkle added 12 points and seven rebounds in the losing effort.
The win was the Panthers’ fourth consecutive victory and their third in a row against a Pac-12 opponent. It was also the first time in program history that the Panthers have won three games in a row against Pac-12 opponents.
The Panthers will now look to continue their winning streak when they face off against the Syracuse Orange on December 7th. With a win, the Panthers could potentially move up in the rankings and make a strong case for an NCAA Tournament bid.
No matter what happens, it’s clear that the Pittsburgh Panthers are off to a great start this season and are looking to make some noise in the NCAA Tournament.
